This Privacy Policy explains how information is handled when you use Public Toilets, an app developed and operated by AL Software Engineering AB.
1. Information We Collect
Public Toilets does not require account registration and does not ask users to provide information such as their name, email address, phone number, or password.
The app does, however, process limited information necessary to provide certain features and operate the service.
This includes:
- Location data, when the user grants location permission.
- An app-generated device identifier used for the rating system.
- Toilet identifiers and ratings submitted by users.
- Technical information that may be processed by third-party services used by the app.
2. Location Data
Public Toilets may use the device’s precise location to show public toilets near the user and provide location-based functionality.
Location access is optional and is only used when permission has been granted by the user.
The app uses location data for app functionality, such as determining which public toilets are nearby.
Public Toilets does not use precise location data for tracking purposes or personalized advertising.
Users can disable location access at any time through their device settings.
3. Ratings and Device Identifier
Public Toilets allows users to rate public toilets from 1 to 5 stars.
To prevent the same app installation from submitting multiple independent ratings for the same toilet, the app generates a random device identifier when the app is first used.
This identifier:
- Is generated by the app.
- Is not your Apple ID, name, email address, or phone number.
- Is not intended to identify you as a real-world person.
- Is stored locally on the device.
- May be transmitted to our backend together with the relevant toilet ID and rating.
Our backend uses this information to store and update ratings and calculate average ratings for public toilets.
We do not use the device identifier for advertising, analytics, or tracking.
4. Advertising
Public Toilets uses Google AdMob to display advertisements.
The app requests non-personalized ads. This means that advertisements are not selected based on the user’s personal interests or browsing history.
Nevertheless, Google AdMob may process certain technical information in connection with advertising, such as information about the device, IP address, ad interactions, or other information required for ad delivery, frequency capping, fraud prevention, and service operation.
For more information about how Google processes information, please see Google’s Privacy Policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy
5. Data Sharing and Third-Party Services
Public Toilets does not sell users’ personal information.
The app uses third-party services that may process information in order to provide their services. These include:
Google AdMob
Used to display advertisements in the app.
Google may process information according to its own privacy policy:
https://policies.google.com/privacy
Backend and Database Services
Public Toilets uses backend infrastructure and database services to store public toilet information and user-submitted ratings.
Ratings may be stored together with the app-generated device identifier, the relevant toilet identifier, and the submitted rating.
6. Data Security
We take reasonable measures to protect information processed by the service.
However, no method of electronic transmission or storage can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
7. Data Retention
Ratings and the associated app-generated device identifier may be retained for as long as necessary to operate and maintain the rating functionality of Public Toilets.
Public toilet data may also be retained as part of the service.
If you uninstall the app, the locally stored app-generated device identifier is removed from the device. Information that has already been transmitted to our backend may remain stored according to our retention practices.
8. Children’s Privacy
Public Toilets does not require users to create an account and does not knowingly collect names, email addresses, or other direct personal information from children.
The app may be used by users of different ages. Parents or guardians can manage location permissions and other device permissions through the device’s settings.
9. Your Choices
You can control certain data processing through your device settings, including:
- Location permissions
- Advertising-related settings
- App permissions
You may also choose not to submit ratings.
10. Changes to This Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time to reflect changes to the app, its services, or applicable requirements.
Any changes will be published on this page, together with an updated ”Last updated” date.
